 a review on rory freedman
and kim barnouin's skinny bitch
by corey podell

I’ve always considered myself a “clean eater”—no fried food, no red meat, and just occasional Happy Hours here and there. But when I read the best-selling diet book Skinny Bitch, that notion was well, bitch slapped, right out of me.  This isn’t to say Skinny Bitch is about deprivation. In fact, coauthors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin are self-proclaimed “pigs,” and include a list of “acceptable junk food” in their book. Skinny Bitch incorporates great food and tons of variety with a healthy, holistic approach.

Skinny Bitch is a “no–nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous.” In other words, it’s for anyone wanting a hot body and a healthy lifestyle. Rory explains, “We called the book Skinny Bitch so people would read it. But the truth is, we put healthy eating before looking good, because if you eat well, looking good will be a by-product.” And these two are no strangers to looking good. Rory is former Ford modeling agent, Kim a former model.

Both based in Los Angeles, the Bitches have coached athletes, models, and actors using the Skinny Bitch method. But don’t expect any handholding, coddling, or celebrity treatment. They speak to readers like they’re friends, giving tough love, blunt advice, and more than a few laughs. “You need to exercise, lazy,” “Coffee is for pussies,” and a chapter entitled, “Pooping,” all come to mind.

So if you’re sensitive to four-letter words, steer clear of Skinny Bitch and steel yourselves, because these two straight shooters aren’t disappearing any time soon. They’re under contract for two more books: a cookbook and a diet book for pregnant women.
