This was not a new proclamation.

“He wants me to buy a new bed!” She plopped her bag down on the table and scooted in next to me at our booth.

This was a new one.  The three of us listened curiously.

“He says he doesn’t fit in my bed.  I said he fits just fine as long as one of us is on top of the other.  A bed only has to be big enough for one person when you’re having sex.  And if he’s so worried about it, we don’t even have to do it in my bed anymore.  There’s plenty of other places; the couch, the floor, the shower, anywhere at his house.  They’re all perfectly large places.”

“Well Manish is perfectly large himself, isn’t he?  He might need a little extra room to maneuver.”  Eve took a sip of her martini to hide her grin; she never could resist the urge to make a size joke.  Our six foot brunette beauty challenged all guys she met with her height, sass, and burping abilities, but almost all of them fell in love regardless once they locked on to the eyes her Japanese father handed down to her.

“I’ll do all the maneuvering.  I need to work out more anyway.”  Kimberly grumbled and started in on the martini we had ordered for her.

“Kim, what size is your bed?”  I asked suddenly.

“It’satwin,” she mumbled.

“Excuse me?”  I asked.

“It’s a twin!”  She shouted and threw her hands on the table.

“Oh my God!”  I yelled back at her.

“That’s so stupid, Kim.  What are you going to do, sleep on top of him like he’s your mattress?”  Ana Valdez has been in a long distance relationship for the better part of a decade.  She moved from Fresno to get her nursing degree about eight years ago, and somehow she and Garret have stuck together despite the three hour distance.  When Kim first introduced me to her, all I could see was her caramel highlights, thick eye makeup and pink cell phone plastered to her ear (with Garret on the other end, of course).  I didn’t see how strong, practical and classy she was until she offered me her share of the garlic naan she saw me eyeing hungrily while we waited for our curry.

“But I don’t want to get rid of my bed.  My headboards are antiques, and a bigger mattress would never fit it.  I love my bed.” Kim threw her head into her arms that were resting on the table.

“Well, you could stay at his house, there’s definitely something to be said for that,” Ana announced a practical solution.

“It doesn’t matter anyway, because I’m never seeing him again.”  She polished off her martini.

Ana picked up her phone.  She has an innate sense for when Garret’s calling, no matter how loud her surroundings are.  “Hey babe,” she said.  Eve got up so Ana could scoot out and dash outside.

“She looks hot tonight,” Eve said as Ana walked away.

A tall man with blue eyes and glasses passed her on her way out.  She smiled and waved at him, but didn’t stop talking on her phone.  He approached our booth.

“Well hello there,” said Paul, my rose giving, cinnamon smelling boyfriend who was wearing the fabulous blue shirt I gave him for his birthday.  He kissed my cheek.

“I’m going to work, but I wanted to give you a kiss to start the night off right.  Hello ladies.” He acknowledged the girls.

“Are you allowed to be seen in here?” Eve asked.

“I’m not really sure,” he said, and looked around a little bit.  “I just wanted to tell you guys to stop by later, and I’ll swing for a round,” he said.  “But I probably should go.”  He kissed me again, this time on my lips, and left for his shift at Chantilly.
